MOVIE REVIEW:Hannah Montana: The Movie

I will admit outright first, I do not like the show at all really,
because I find it mainly unfunny and feel apart from two or three
actors the acting is not good. So I wasn't expecting much when I saw
Hannah Montana:The Movie out of curiosity, and while I do think it is a
marginal improvement over the show, that isn't saying much.

The scenery is sometimes very nice, but I felt the editing was choppy
in places. I also don't really like the soundtrack that much. Butterfly
Fly Away was sweet, but I do not like The Climb at all, mostly because
the lyrics are really uninspired and Miley Cyrus's vocals were rather
forced for my liking.

What else didn't I like about the movie? Well, there was the clichéd
plot line, with one too many predictable turns. There was a weak
script, that tried to be funny or touching but failed, and a very dull
romance. Then there is the message, for me this is one of the most
hypocritical messages I have seen in a film in a long time. I can't say
anything good about the acting or direction either. The direction is
simplistic, while Miley Cyrus verges on painful to watch. Emily Osment
tries her hardest, but is given literally nothing to do. And Barry
Bostwick needn't have bothered really, he is a good actor, but with
such a poorly written character he is wasted.

Overall, it is a waste of time. By all means you can see it and like
it, but to be honest I didn't think much of this. 2/10 Bethany Cox

The legion of fans that Hannah Montana has guaranteed a built in
audience for the Disney Studio when they decided to take the show from
the small to the big screen. All the people from the TV show are there
with a few new additions, none of whom ever made it back to the small

Especially Lucas Till who was introduced as a new love interest for
Miley Cyrus as Miley Stewart aka Hannah Montana. I really thought at
some point they would bring him into the TV series, but I guess he
didn't want to leave Tennessee.

Which brings us to the film, the pressures of leading that double life
get a bit too much for Miley/Hannah and her dad Billy Ray Cyrus decides
that a trip to Tennessee might be just the thing especially as her
maternal grandmother will be having a big birthday bash. Vicki Lawrence
plays her paternal grandma on some episodes of the TV series, but the
grandmother here is played nicely by Margo Martindale.

The villain of the piece is developer Barry Bostwick who wants to put a
strip mall and gut the small town of Crowley's Corners Tennessee. The
local folks can't raise the money until a certain well known celebrity
from the town lends a hand.

If you read my review of the TV show it is one of the most ludicrously
premised shows ever done. The relentless paparazzi would have tracked
down Hannah's double life by the third episode in real life. However on
the plus side as I also stated Miley Cyrus is a lovely young lady with
a terrific singing talent and the film's biggest asset is just that.

Not a great film, but Miley's fans will love it.

I just want to start of by saying that this was not an all bad movie. I
am a 20 year old male, and maybe like some of you I love to watch
movies in all shapes, forms and colors. This movie has had a lot of
complaint, on this forum as well as others. Well as many others have
stated before me, its target audience is not adults! So if you don't
get it, don't beat yourself up about it. Another complaint has been
Mileys (and maybe others) acting in this movie. I can agree that on the
show Hannah Montana they lack great acting (Except maybe Mitchel Musso
and Mosies Arias). But in this movie the acting was nothing half bad.
In fact I find the acting good. There isn't much to blame. I mean Miley
Cyrus plays Miley Stewart, a character based on her and Billy Ray plays
Robbie Ray who is also based on him. They play as themselves and no one
is too much or to short on acting. The plot is decent enough simple for
a children's movie but although not very original.

It's a feel good film with good messenges about the ups and downs of
things, and as the whole show it deals with "To follow your heart" and
"Do the right thing". Might not be original, but messenges like it is
needed, because although over exposed very few people follow the
advice. I know watching Hannah Montana as a whole has changed me in
many ways even though I always "hated" it all before I actually took
time to watch it. I recommend the move to all ages and sexes but keep
an open mind and think hard about what is said and you might come out
wiser than before.
