MOVIE REVIEW:Mindhunters

This movie is probably my favourite psycho thriller of all times. The
film inspired me even to begin again to write novels after I have
watched it. I have seen this movie at least three times and I get
always drowned in a very special atmosphere when I listen to it and
never get bored watching it.

I know that the idea of an isolated group in an isolated place where a
murderer is killing one after the other is nothing new indeed. But that
is the only critical point about this movie, that it is nothing
innovating, surprising or unique. It is not the originality that makes
this movie one of the best ones of its genre to me, but its intense
atmosphere and the characters realistic behaviours.

The rest of the movie is just brilliant. From the beginning on, there
is a good tension and dark atmosphere in the movie. The characters are
all doing a very solid job even if they are not playing the roles of
their lives. But especially LL Cool J, who has often been criticized as
a weak actor and Val Kilmer, about whom many people think that his days
of glory have passed a long time ago, do a credible job and are the
most famous actors of this movie. Only Patricia Velasquez is doing a
less convincing job after all.

This movie takes the time to introduce each one of the characters but
doesn't take no prisoners and gets you quite fast in a dark mood. When
the murderer begins its bloody work, you are always thinking and
analyzing what might happen next and it is the original and stunning
way the murderer chooses how to kill each victim and how he or she
announces when to kill the next one what makes this movie very
interesting. Each time I watch this movie, I am not able anymore to
stop watching the movie or even take a break, it addicts me completely
and my eyes seem to be glued on the screen. There is a lot of realistic
psychology in the way each one of the characters acts as the tension
raises. There are many twists and riddles to be solved in this movie
and you get a surprising and satisfying showdown in the end of this
intense movie.

If you like classical psycho thrillers, you will surely not live a
deception with this one and get one hundred minutes of intense

|Credit. IMDb| On a remote island, the FBI has a training program for
their psychological profiling division, called "Mindhunters", used to
track down serial killers. The training goes horribly wrong, however,
when a group of seven young agents discover that one of them is a
serial killer, and is setting about slaying the others. Can the few
that are left figure out who the killer is in time?

Mindhunters isn't original at all. I've seen many films of this type in
my time, but at least it passed the time well enough. One thing I'll
say about this movie though is, I had a hard time guessing the killer.
It had many swerves, and once I thought I knew everything, it threw
more swerves at me. What I admired though, was the explanation for it
made sense. A lot of time with these types of thrillers, the twists
don't end up making sense. I also really dug the creepy atmosphere it
had, as well the cool characters. I enjoyed the inventive death scenes,
and Renny Harlin's aggressive and solid direction was great. Only real
gripes are it's overly familiar a lot of the time, and Christian Slater
didn't have nearly enough time in the movie.

Performances. Eion Bailey is likable and mysterious in his role. Well
played. Kathryn Morris is a reluctant hero, and I was half & half on
her. She was good at parts, awkward in others. Very inconsistent.
Nobody will mistake LL Cool J for being a great actor, but he has cool
charisma. I dug him here a lot. Johnny Lee Miller is OK in his role.
Will Kemp was annoying in his role. While Patricia Velasquez was
decent. Christian Slater is totally cool, and likable in his limited
screen time. Val Kiler is basically a non-entity here, but did OK with
what he had to do.

Bottom line. It's a great time killer, I'll say that much. Despite the
overly sense of familiarity, it did the job. If you're looking for a
fairly entertaining serial killer film, go mind-hunting with this
one|pun intended|

I had actually seen this movie 4 years back, but I didn't remember it.
But I did remember actually enjoying the movie back then. As it was
coming on TV the other day, I thought let me give it another try. I
usually like these kinds of movies where a bunch of people are alone on
an island and they have to survive against a killer on the loose, and
it also helps that these people are not some horny teenagers and the
killer is not Jason Vorhees!

A group of FBI newbies are stranded in the middle of an island by their
trainer to simulate a training exercise. The exercise goes horribly
wrong when they get killed off one by one by someone they don't even
know. The killer is extremely intelligent and even tells them when they
are going to die. After searching the entire island and finding nobody
other than themselves, they start doubting each other. Now they have to
find the killer and kill him before he brutally murders all of them.

The first time I had seen this, I thought it was a brilliant film. But
now I think, though it was good, it was not path-breaking or out of the
box. You can enjoy the movie for what it is. I loved the way the
killings were done, they were completely bloody and gore. The sets were
wonderful. The dialogues are somewhat cheesy and the acting was
average. Still the movie is completely entertaining. Give it a try.

"Mindhunters" is a silly, but highly entertaining mystery. The real
mystery is why the movie was delayed for two years by Dimension Films.
The plot: 7 FBI profilers are put on an remote island for training
about serial killers. Little do they know that a real killer is on the
loose tracking them one by one. Not killing them outright, but setting
traps. The mystery aspect of the film is different and there are a lot
of twists. The deaths are also original.

Slater's and Kilmer's death are the standouts. Slater's character is
the first victim who gets frozen by liquid nitrogen and shatters into
pieces. Kilmer's character was strung up with hooks like a puppet.

The only problem with the movie is the ending. It's very lame and it
hurts the film greatly. But if you don't take the movie too seriously,
you'll enjoy it.
